September 14, 2004 African American Pastor Ecumenical Council Press Conference Statement from Tim Norwood In an effort to promote racial harmony and a better understanding of the concerns and issues of the African American citizens of District 30, I have proposed an Ecumenical Council of African American Pastors. Legrande Harley, a member of my staff and I have, thus far, identified 20 pastors who, not only share my vision, but will serve on this council. This council will meet regularly to discuss the ways that I as a State Senator can work together to solve our most pressing challenges, in order to increase economic opportunity and jobs, along with better funding for education and healthcare. Many pastors have become involved because of their disgust at the many voting irregularities that took place on June 8th. I would like to share with you an anonymous message that I received at my home on June 15th. This not only lead part of our investigation, it continues to motivate me in our fight, not only for this new fair election on September 28th, but for better leadership and better government in District 30.
We all want; actually, we all need to work hard during this campaign to produce a fair election result for all. In addition to this concern, the Pastors together, have expressed their concerns for the need for bold new leadership regarding economic growth and job creation. I would like all of you to hear Senator Glover’s remarks are about her understanding of her responsibility toward the recruitment of new job opportunity in District 30. Her remarks, among other places, were made at the May 17 NAACP debate.
I believe and have stated throughout this campaign that my number one priority is to create jobs. I would like to introduce you to the following Pastors and hear their remarks:
Reverend Bubba Dyson Isaac Wilson Youth Governor of SC Ms. Jeniffer Wilkes President SGA Wilson High School Reverend Dan McCowan Pastor M. A. Webber Mr. Legrande Harley Thank you to each and every speaker whose words have been so supportive and for your strong endorsement of my campaign. I look forward to working with you and bring about our vision in District 30. When elected, I will work closely and eagerly with the African American Ecumenical Counsel to seek our vision, providing greater opportunity throughout District 30 in the form of jobs, better funding for education and health care. When I am elected to represent our District in the State Senate, you’ll have a full partner, a strong advocate, and someone always willing to listen and to be of service to the people’s needs. As I have echoed throughout my campaign,
This is a fight that is important to the future of democracy in the Pee Dee. This is a fight that together, we can win... It's a fight that we must win! Tim Norwood |
