Florence Businessman Tim Norwood to Announce Candidacy for District 30 Senate Race

Florence businessman Tim Norwood, a native of Darlington, will kick off his campaign next Monday, November 3, 2003, for the District 30 State Senate seat that represents portions of Marion, Dillon, Florence and Marlboro counties.

Norwood will be challenging 12-year incumbent Maggie Glover, focusing his campaign on issues such as economic development, health care and education.

Monday will mark the official announcement of Tim Norwood's candidacy as well as set in motion the first steps of his pledge to walk the district, beginning by greeting citizens in the community of Mars Bluff, the first of four announcement sites Norwood will address on Monday, concluding at the Opera House in Marion.

Tim Norwood is vice president of a local tax-credit services firm as well as an active alumnus of Francis Marion University, where he served as president of the Student Government Association in 1978. He has a wife, Anne, and two sons, Eric, 22, and Fields, 17.

Norwood has held leadership roles his entire life, including earning the prestigious honor of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America as well as serving his Methodist churches in both Darlington and Florence for years.

Norwood was a homebuilder prior to his work in the tax-credit services industry and held high offices in local and statewide trade organizations, including serving as president of the Homebuilder's Association of the Pee Dee and the Darlington Board of Realtors in the 1980s. In 1986, Tim Norwood was named Homebuilder of the Year.

Tim Norwood currently serves on the Board of Trustees at the Byrnes School and is vice chairman of the Francis Marion University Foundation. Norwood also established a scholarship in 2003 for his alma mater, available to a student active in student life as well as athletics at the university.

Tim Norwood says he offers the "strength to lead, the will to fight and the passion to serve" District 30 citizens as State Senator.

The following is a schedule for Tim Norwood's announcement kickoff date of Monday, November 3, 2003:
